North East Stoney Trail
North East Stoney Trail is a long-term PPP concession contract to design, build, operate and maintain a 21 km section of new highway, forming part of a larger ring road developed in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
This project includes the operation, maintenance and rehabilitation of the four and six-lane divided highway and 23 bridge structures.
The project became operational in 2009, and the concession runs until 2039. Availability payments are received from the Province of Alberta.
Sustainability
As part of the project, tens of hectares of ponds were created to allow native vegetation and birds to flourish. This work was implemented in collaboration with the Fisheries and Oceans Canada and Alberta Environment and Parks to mitigate the impact of the projects on the native wetlands. The natural landscapes created drew wildlife and vegetation back to the area.
In 2017 STGP upgraded the Project’s lighting system to a new and energy-efficient LED technology. The upgrade reduced power consumption by approx. 43% over the life of the concession.
