Northwest Anthony Henday Drive
The Northwest Anthony Henday Drive is a 21 km segment of Edmonton’s Ring Road, extending from Yellowhead Trail to Manning Drive in Alberta.
Delivered under a Design-Build-Finance-Operate-Maintain (DBFOM) model, the project includes 230 lane-km of four- and six-lane divided highway, eight interchanges, five flyovers, two rail crossings, and 29 bridges. It became operational in 2011, with the concession running until 2041. Availability payments are made by the Government of Alberta.
The project improves traffic flow, safety, and freight efficiency for approx. 70,000 daily users
Sustainability
The project has improved traffic efficiency and reduced congestion, lowering fuel consumption and vehicle emissions.
According to the Government of Alberta’s 2023 Value-for-Money Report, the PPP delivery method achieved 14–20% in time and cost savings compared to traditional methods.
Additionally, in 2019 the project upgraded the entire lighting system (1,899 lamps) to LED effectively reducing carbon emissions by more than 48%.
