The William R Bennett Bridge is a 1.1 km long floating bridge, forms part of Highway 97, and connects downtown Kelowna, on the east side of the Okanagan Lake, with West Kelowna, on the west side. The overall project is approximately 2 km in length. The bridge accommodates 5 lanes of traffic (3 westbound, 2 eastbound) and a 3 m wide sidewalk for pedestrian and cyclist use. It is the only floating bridge in Canada and one of only nine floating bridges in the world. The bridge is highly utilised, as it provides the only crossing of the 120-kilometre long Okanagan Lake. The project became operational in 2008 and receives availability payments from the Province of British Columbia.
